The Age of Onset of Menstruation is Important<\/h3>\n

The average age for menarche is around 12 years old, but this does not mean that all girls will start menstruating at age 12. A girl may start menstruating between the ages of 8 and 16. <\/p>\n

The age at which menstruation begins cannot be accurately predicted, but in most cases it follows a family pattern, meaning that if the mother’s period started early, there is a possibility that the daughter will also have early menstruation.

\nThe delayed onset of menstruation also depends on other factors, such as severe thinness, anorexia nervosa, being an athlete (intensive and constant exercise), severe stress, or certain special diseases.

\nStudies show that women who experience their first period before the age of 12 are more likely to have girls. This is because of the different levels of female hormones in their bodies. <\/p>\n

The sex of a fetus is often a fascinating topic for parents and those around them.
\nBut is it possible to predict whether a woman will give birth to a girl or a boy before the fetus is formed?
\nAccording to new studies, this guess doesn’t seem so far-fetched.<\/p>\n

A group of Japanese researchers have found a link between the sex of the fetus and the age at which the mother first gets her period.
\nIn their study, the researchers asked 10,000 women the age at which they got their first period and the sex of their child.
\nThe results of the study showed that 46 percent of women who got their first period at the age of 10 had a boy.
\nThe chance of having a boy increased to 50 percent when the age of the first period in a woman was 12, and to 53 percent when the age of the mother’s first period was 14.

\nPrevious studies have shown that levels of the female hormone estradiol are higher in women who experience their first period before the age of 12. This may lead to the spontaneous loss of male sperm in these women’s bodies.

\n“The results of this study are plausible and acceptable because we know that male fetuses are more vulnerable to hormonal imbalances than female fetuses,” says Valerie Grant of the University of Auckland in New Zealand.
